Joseph F. Melvin, 72, of Lorain, passed away Friday, Aug. 31, 2007, in Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky.
Mr. Melvin was born June 28, 1935, in Nashville, Tenn. He spent his childhood in the Birmingham area. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired tire stockman for Ford Motor Company in Lorain. He was a member of the UAW Local, American Legion Post 30 and the VFW Post in Vermilion.
Mr. Melvin is survived by daughters, Roberta A. Melvin of Lorain and Rebecca E. Melvin of Vermilion; sons, Lloyd W. Melvin and Curtis L. Melvin, both of Lorain; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean Ryan of Sandusky, Linda Thomas of Bangor, Maine, and Marlene Gruber of Huron; brothers, Kenneth Baatz of Huron and Carl Baatz of Sandusky.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Melvin in 1997; his mother, Ernestine Townes; and sisters, Karen Baatz and Eileen Edwards.
Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Township with full military honors provided jointly by American Legion Post 30 and VFW Post 451.
