David L. Steinen, 71, of Nova, Ohio, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, in the Rehabilitation & Nursing Center at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a short illness.
He was born June 2, 1936, in Sandusky, son of the now deceased Gilbert Steinen Sr. and Thelma (Galloway) Steinen. He was a 1954 graduate of Sandusky St. Mary Central Catholic High School, and a 1958 graduate of Bowling Green State University, where he was on the university's golf team. He also attended Kent State University for his degree in horticulture. Mr. Steinen served in the U.S. Army. He had worked at Plum Brook Country Club in Sandusky for 25 years. He owned and operated Rolling Acres Golf Course in Nova for 20 years. Mr. Steinen was a member of the Wellington American Legion Post 8, the Wellington AMVETS, the New London VFW Pheifer-Mathers Post 4654 and the Ashland Eagles. He loved the outdoors, nature, hunting and golf.
He is survived by two daughters and one son, Teresa Rohr and Christopher Steinen, both of Nova and Sheryl (Bryan) Puder of Wakeman; four grandchildren, Justin, Janelle and Paige Rohr, all of Nova and Sara Thompson of Sandusky; three sisters and one brother, Gilbert Steinen Jr., Doris (Harry) McGooke and Sally (Vito) Dibari, all of Sandusky and Mary (Jim) Petrie of Sweetwater, Texas; and a brother-in-law, Henry Carlsen of Avon Lake, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Carlsen; and his grandson, Will Douglas Thompson.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday in Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London. A memorial mass will 10 a.m Saturday in Our Lady Of Christians Parish, Community of Jesus the Good Shepherd, Nova Catholic Church, 240 Ohio 511, Nova.
