Ellagene (Ransom) Buhrow, 73, of Port Clinton, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007.
She was the eighth daughter born to Foster Neil and Gertrude Sprau Ransom on Jan. 9, 1934, in Sandusky. Ellagene was a 1952 graduate of Margaretta High School, Castalia. In Sandusky on Aug. 8, 1959, she married Raymond W. Buhrow of Oak Harbor. He preceded her in death Aug. 3, 1978. In Oak Harbor, on Feb. 14, 1982, she married Carroll Knieriem. He preceded her in death Feb. 18, 1986.
Ellagene was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, where she was formerly a Sunday school teacher. She previously worked as a legal secretary and at the Erie Army Depot, Port Clinton, and Floro's Restaurant, Oak Harbor. She was also past president of Thomas Neill Women's Relief Corp. 275 in Castalia. Ellagene was an Erie Township Central Committee woman and for more than 30 years an Erie Township precinct worker. She was a volunteer in the Ohio Reads program at Carroll School in Oak Harbor. Ellagene was a member of the Colonel George Croghan Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution in Fremont. She was a former member of the Erie Township Mother's Club, an Erie Township 4-H advisor, a member of the Women of the Moose, Port Clinton, and the Eagles Auxiliary of Fremont. Ellagene was the founder of the Erie Army Women's Reunion and Country Quilters, a quilting group in her neighborhood. She was the fourth generation great-granddaughter of Ashael Ransom of Connecticut who fought in the Revolutionary War and the great-granddaughter of Foster Follett Neill of Margaretta Township who was wounded in the Civil War. Ellagene was a member of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Lucy Seaman, Bainbridge, Ohio, Bicentennial Tent 150, Fremont, and the Toussaint River Protectors Association.
She loved most her family. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, crafts and playing cards with her many friends.
Ellagene is survived by her lovely daughter, Ann Buhrow (Jeffery J.) Scott; three grandchildren, Rok Ransom Ryan Scott and Jessica and Derek Scott, all of Port Clinton; two sisters, her twin sister, Edythe Ransom of Sandusky and Stella Lake of West Mifflin, Pa.; and her oldest and dearest friends, Curtis and Dorothy Miller of Sandusky.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Gertrude Compton, formerly of Coral Gables, Fla., Ruth M. Ransom, formerly of San Francisco, Calif., Virginian and Lula Mae Ransom, both formerly of Sandusky, and Grance Anwander of formerly of Vickery.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Thursday in Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, where the family will be present from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor.
