Norbert "Bob" Willis Matthews Sr., 78, of Sandusky, passed away Sunday afternoon, Aug. 26, 2007, at home after a lengthy illness.
He was born May 4, 1929, in Pittsburgh, the son of Paul and Ethel (Morrow) Matthews Sr. He retired from Chesapeake Paper Company, the former Hinde-Dauch, where he was employed for 40 years. He was also a member of Sandusky Eagles and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Mae Dean (Hardiman) Matthews; one sister, Gloria (Richard) Coan of Solon, Ohio; his children, Diane Fee of Michigan, Mike (Darlene) Matthews of Springfield, Ohio, Carol (Eric) Bohl of Bay View, Tim (Malinda) Matthews of Norwalk, Doug Matthews and Yvonne (Pete) Maldonado of Sandusky, Vonda (John) Neigel of Kentucky, Norbert (Goulia) Matthews Jr., Paul (Tammy) Matthews and Danny Jenkins, all of Sandusky, Debra Ramon of Fremont, Patty (Angelo) Guevara of Sandusky, Rita (Greg) LeGron of Castalia, and Dean (Karen) Stout and Lee Welch, both of Sandusky; 35 grandchildren, including special granddaughter, Tara Nickles; 35 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and five nieces and a nephew.
His parents; his twin brother, Paul Matthews Jr.; his son, Gary Matthews; his granddaughter, Lauren Rogers; and son-in-laws, Larry Fee and Armond Hamburg, preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, followed by burial at Meadow Green Memorial Park.
