Donald R. Behnke, 85, of Sandusky, died Thursday evening, Aug. 23, 2007, in Stein Hospice Care Center after a brief illness.
He was born Dec. 25, 1921, in Sandusky. Mr. Behnke was the owner/operator of the Behnke Telephone Answering Service, and Man Power and Letter Shop. He was a Navy Veteran who served during World War II. Donald was a member of the Sandusky Yacht Club, a life member of the Sandusky Elks, a member of American Legion Post 83, 32nd Degree Mason-Perseverance Lodge 329, F. & A.M. and Singara Grotto.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth (Boetticher); his daughter, Mary Jean (Joseph) Yost of Sandusky; two grandchildren, Andy Thom of Sandusky and Janette Thom of Huron; four great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce A. Ricci of Huron; brothers, Raymond (Mary) Behnke and Dr. Allan Behnke, both of Michigan.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond T. and Verna A. (Palmer) Behnke; an infant daughter, Donna Ruth Behnke; an infant granddaughter, Alison Yost; and brother, Douglas Behnke.
Family and friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Sunday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where services will be 1 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Ken Heintzelman will officiate.
