Lois Ann (Hartung) Souter, 73, of Bucyrus and formerly of Sandusky, passed away early Thursday morning, Aug. 23, 2007, in Fairview Manor, Bucyrus, after a lengthy illness.
She was born April 7, 1934, in Sandusky, to Lois and Edward Hartung. Lois was a 1952 graduate of Sandusky High School and a 1957 graduate of Bowling Green State University, with a major in English and elementary education. She began her teaching career in 1959 at Sandusky High School and retired from Perkins High School after 32 years as head of the English department. She had also worked part time at Sears and Cedar Point. Lois was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Sandusky and was first vice president of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.
She is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer (Rich) Kalb and Laurie Ann Souter, both of Bucyrus; two grandsons, Fisher and Carson Kalb of Bucyrus; three nephews, Daniel Hartung Jr. of Huron, Edward Hartung and Rudy Hartung, both of Sandusky; and one niece, Pamela Kellam of Sandusky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John G. "Jack" Souter in 2005: her parents, Edward and Lois (Woodburn) Hartung; one brother, Daniel Hartung; a niece, Linda (Hartung) Toby; and her 12 poodles.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. today until services at 2 p.m. in Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Richard Buchsteiner, brother-in-law, will officiate. At the request of the deceased, cremation will follow.
