George S. "Pappy" Huff, 90, of Progress Road, Fremont, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2007, in Toledo Hospital.
He was born Aug. 9, 1917, in Rising Sun, Ohio, to Chauncey W. and Pearl A. (Heckman) Huff. George drove truck for 40 years for Red Star, C.J. Rogers and Russell Trucking Line, retiring in 1979. He married Hattie E. "Stella" (Nowak) Elswick Sept. 3, 1995, in Ravenna, Ohio, and she survives. He was a member of the Fremont Eagles 712, Fremont Moose 1286 and AMVETS Post 17 in Sandusky. He loved to tinker and invent with various projects.
George is survived by his wife, Hattie E. "Stella" Huff of Fremont; children, Leslie H. (Sandy) Huff and Lowell J. Huff, both of Fremont and Paul L. (Debbie) Huff of Burgoon, Ohio; stepdaughters, Robbie S. (Marty) Kane of Fremont, Corbie M. (Mike) Pusher of Swanton, Ohio, and Rosaline Mullen of Fremont; six grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert J., William R., Donald W., Carl W., Otto B. and Ervin Huff; and sisters, Anna M. Miller and Hilma Rinebold.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today and Wednesday at Wonderly-Horvath-Hanes Funeral Home & Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont, where funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday with Pastor Robert Quillen officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Elmore, Ohio.
