Pat B. Gioffre, 82, of Huron, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, in his son's home in Huron, after an extended illness.
He was born June 20, 1925, in Huron, and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Huron High School after returning from the Army in 1947. He owned and operated, with his father, the Gioffre Bar in Huron. He worked for the City of Huron Water Dept. for two years and then worked until his retirement in 1979 as general foreman at the family run Huron Cement Products, Huron. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Huron; the I.A.B Club, Sandusky; the American Legion Post 83, Sandusky; Huron Eagles 2875; the Sandusky AMVETS 17; and the Knights of Columbus St. Edwards Council 5023, Huron, where he served as Post Grand Knight. He was also a member of Bay Area Officials Association of Sandusky and was an official for basketball and football for more than 20 years; member of Huron Booster Club; the Huron High School Alumni Association; and the Local Teamster's Union. He was an avid supporter of the Huron High School Athletic Program. In his later years he enjoyed casino games and horse racing with his wife Ann and followed the All Niters Band with his friends.
He is survived by two sons, Patrick J. "Sticks" (Mary) Gioffre of Huron and Charles F. (Cynthia) Gioffre of Galena, Ohio; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mary David of Huron and Theresa Alten of Elyria; and sisters-in-law, Frances Gioffre of Huron and Anna Ioli of Mt. Clemons, Mich.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ann D. (Ioli) Gioffre in 2002; his parents, Joseph and Carmella (Pisano) Gioffre; a sister, Rose Caporini; and brother, Ralph Gioffre.
Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Monday in St. Peter Catholic Church Gathering Space, 430 Main St., Huron, where a funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Jeffery Sikorski will officiate. Burial will be in Scott Cemetery, Huron.
