Joel G. Borden, 67, of Sandusky, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a long illness.
He was born April 9, 1940, in Sandusky. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed by Chrysler Plastics and Epic Technologies and, at one time, owned his own refrigeration business. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joyce (Dodd); three daughters, Crystal (John) Holzaepfel of Floral City, Fla., Kimberly (Leonard) Jefferies of Crestwood, Ky., and Jody (Marty) Woodard of Bellevue, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Nathan, Aaron and Ben Holzaepfel, Jacob McKenna, Trent and Shelby Woodard, Joshua and Kayleigh Borden and Samantha Jo Borden Rickard; a great-grandson, Bryson Borden; three brothers, William (Donna) Borden of Huron, Dennis (Nancy) Gilbert and Stanley (Sue) Gilbert Sr., both of Sandusky; and three sisters, Pauline Edens and Stephanie Gilbert, both of Sandusky, and Candace Gilbert of Monroeville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Joel; three grandsons, Jeffery McKenna, Joel J. Borden Jr. and T.J. Woodard; his mother, Lois Maschari Gilbert; grandparents, Joseph and Pauline Maschari; his mother-in-law, Virginia Mae Lillibridge; father-in-law, Frank Lee Donald; and brother-in-law, Gary Dodd.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where prayers will be recited 9:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky, with the Rev. Doug Garand officiating. Entombment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
