Shirley Friedman-Pifer, 71, of Sandusky and formerly of Monroeville, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007, in her home with her family and loved ones at her side.

She was born Sept. 29, 1935, in Wakeman and was customer care representative for Periodical Publishers, Sandusky, retiring after more than 10 years of service. Shirley was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sandusky, and a member of the Monroeville American Legion Auxiliary.

Shirley is survived by her daughters, Carla (Angelo) Elliott of Temperance, Mich., and Debra Collingsworth of Sandusky; son, William "Billy" Friedman of Sandusky; stepdaughter, Mary (Harold) Leber of Columbus; stepsons, John (Cindy) Pifer and Jim (Sam) Pifer, both of Monroeville and Bob Pifer; five grandchildren; six step grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Eunice Twaddle of Norwalk; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Sarah (Heitsche) Hand; husbands, William Friedman and John Pifer; sister, Dora Urbansky; brother, Gene Hand; and one stepgrandson.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where prayers will be recited at 1:30 p.m. Friday followed by a Mass of Christian Buria at 2 p.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sandusky. The Rev. Douglas Garand will officiate. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
