William H. Ruffing, 75, of Bellevue, passed away Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, in The Bellevue Hospital.
"Bill" was born Sept. 10, 1931, in Fremont, and was the son of Mark Ruffing Sr. and Stella (Krupp) Ruffing, now deceased. He graduated from Bellevue High School in 1949, and married his wife Marcelin (Snavely) on Nov. 6, 1954, in St. Peter's Church in Upper Sandusky.
He retired in 1995 from the maintenance department at Bellevue City Schools, and was a well-known custom home builder in Bellevue. Bill was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Experimental Aircraft Association and a Third Degree member of The Knights of Columbus.
Bill was devoted to Right to Life causes, and was an avid woodworker, furniture maker and aviation enthusiast. But most importantly, a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Mercelin; four sons, Steve (Michelle) of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Mike (Helen) of Lexington, Ky., Joe (Helen) of Raleigh, N.C., and Patrick (Julie) of Bellevue; three daughters, Sue (Jim) Rosa of Boardman, Ohio, Jane of Royal Oak, Mich., and Kate (Chris) Dashner of Strongsville; 16 grandchildren; five brothers, Mark (Peggie) Jr. of Bellevue; John (Eileen) of Lexington, Mass., Jim (Mavie) of Delaware, Ohio, Francis (Jennifer) of Loudon, N.H., and Terry (Sharon) of Bellevue; and one sister, Marylyn (Bill) Kocher of Norwalk.
He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Christine Ann.
Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday in Foos and Son Funeral Home, 311 W. Main St,, Bellevue, where the rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Immaculate Conception Church, 231 E. Center St., Bellevue, with The Rev. Keith Stripe officiating. Internment will follow in Bellevue Catholic Cemetery, Bellevue.
