James L. Roberts, 77, of Sandusky, passed away early Tuesday morning, July 24, 2007, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a brief illness.
He was born Dec. 16, 1929, in Sandusky, and was a 1947 graduate of Sandusky High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served from 1951-53, during the Korean Conflict. He was the owner and operator of A.W. Roberts & Son and Roberts Speciality Shoppe for more than 50 years, retiring in 2006. Mr. Roberts was a member of American Legion Post 83; St. Stephen United Church of Christ, where he was an active member of the choir; and was involved in various other choral groups in the area. He was a recognized lay minister within the church. He was a true people person; he just loved people, his family and his grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling and golfing.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marlene A. (Bremer) Roberts; children, Thomas (Connie) Roberts of Huron, Timothy Roberts of Sandusky, Tamara Roberts of Chicago, Ill., Tonya (Keith) Warren of Sandusky and Tina (Jody) Showalter of Sandusky; seven grandchildren, Marcia (Tim) Hahn, Mark, Matthew and M. Scott Roberts, Joshua Warren and Katelyn and Noelle Showalter; sister, Audrey Brown of Sandusky; brother-in-law, John (Pat) Bremer of Oviedo, Fla.; and a niece and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Mildred (Wilke) Roberts; and a nephew.
The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. Sunday until services at 4 p.m. in St. Stephen United Church of Christ, 905 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Rob Patton will officiate.
