James L. Roberts, 77, of Sandusky, passed away early Tuesday morning, July 24, 2007, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a briefillness.
He was born Dec. 16, 1929, in Sandusky and was a 1947 graduate of Sandusky High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served from 1951-53 during the Korean War.
He was the owner/operator of A.W. Roberts & Son and Roberts Specialty Shoppe for more than 50 years, retiring in 2006. Mr. Roberts was a member of the American Legion Post 83 and St. Stephen United Church of Christ, where he was an active member of the choir and was involved in various other choral groups in the area. He was a recognized lay minister within the church.
He was a true people person; he just loved people, his family and his grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling and golfing.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marlene A. (Bremer) Roberts; children, Thomas (Connie) Roberts of Huron, Timothy Roberts of Sandusky, Tamara Roberts of Chicago, Tonya (Keith) Warren of Sandusky and Tina (Jody) Showalter of Sandusky; seven grandchildren, Marcia (Tim) Hahn, Mark, Matthew, M. Scott Roberts, Joshua Warren, Katelyn and Noelle Showalter; sister, Audrey Brown of Sandusky; brother-in-law, John (Pat) Bremer of Oviedo, Fla.; and niece and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Mildred (Wilke) Roberts and a nephew.
The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. Sunday until a memorial service at 4 p.m. at St. Stephen United Church of Christ, 905 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Rob Patton will officiate.
