Verna Irene Fatiga, 82, of Sandusky, died Monday evening, July 16, 2007, in Providence Care Center.
She was born Aug. 23, 1924, in Port Clinton, and graduated from Port Clinton High School. She had been employed with Periodical Publishers and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Sandusky.
Verna is survived by her son, Michael A. Johnson of Charlotte, N.C.; grandsons, Matthew (Rhonda) Johnson of Charlotte, Mark (Susan) Johnson of Charleston, S.C., and Michael Johnson of Sandusky; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Donald L. (Helen) Smith of Sandusky.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Johnson in 1949; her second husband, Victor Fatiga in 1977; her parents, Elmer and Nettie (Irick) Smith; two sisters, Leota Garcia and Ruth Orwig; and four brothers, Richard and J. Leonard Smith; and William and James Smith in infancy.
Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Zion Lutheran Church, 503 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, with Pastor John Mawhirter officiating. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
