Robert Leroy Dubbert, 77, of Bellevue, died Tuesday, July 10, 2007, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky.

Robert was born July 29, 1929, in Port Clinton, to Max and Mildred (Miller) Dubbert, now deceased. He was raised in Port Clinton. He attended Capitol University where he earned a bachelor's degree in public school music and met and married Ellen Zehner, who also graduated with a bachelor's degree in public school music. Later, he did graduate work at Ohio State University.

He taught all the music in grades 1-12 in Plymouth, Ohio from 1952-55; was assistant high school band director in Lancaster, Ohio from 1955-59; high school band director in Clyde from 1959-62; high school band director in Medina, Ohio, from 1962-63; and junior high school band director and assistant high school director in Bellevue from 1963-84. He retired from teaching in 1984, but continued to work for the Bellevue school system and as an aide at the Flat Rock Children's Home, a home for multiple-handicapped children, and later as a mail and food carrier.

He served as president of Kiwanis, Bellevue Education Association, District II Ohio Music Education Association and as an adjudicator for OMEA for 30 years. He chaired the District II Band Orchestra and Choir Competition at Clyde for two years and the junior high BOC competition for 13 years in Bellevue. He also directed junior high District II festival band for one year.

He was very active in St. John's Lutheran Church. While in Lancaster and Clyde he directed the church bell choir for eight years. In Bellevue, he taught Sunday school for many years and served as Sunday school superintendent for one year. He served on many committees of the church council, and was president of the congregation for two years. For three years he served on the parish education committee of the Northwest Ohio Synod of the ELCA. He was a boating enthusiast and a member of Cherry City Squares square dance club.

Survivors include wife, Ellen (Zehner) Dubbert, whom he married Aug. 9, 1953 in Mansfield; sons, Robert Allen (Rebecca) Dubbert of St. Charles, Ill.; Daniel Lee (Debra Kay) Dubbert of Punta Gorda, Fla.; and Michael Andrew Dubbert of Cincinnati; daughter, Lisa Kaye (Scott) Gittinger of Bellevue; grandchildren, Sue Ellen, Stacey, Sabrina, Thomas, Andrew, Joseph and Benjamin Dubbert and Holly and Cody Keegan.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday in Foos & Son Funeral Home, 311 W. Main St., Bellevue. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John's Lutheran Chuch in Bellevue, with the Rev. Stephen Siebel officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.
