Howard Charles Otto Jr., 68, of Johannesburg, Mich., and formerly of Sandusky, died Thursday evening, July 5, 2007, in his home.
He was born Jan. 29, 1939, in Sandusky, to Howard and Allidia (Hudson) Otto, and was a 1957 graduate of Sandusky High School.
He was employed with the family business, Otto Dairy, until starting his own business, Otto's Refrigeration.
He served in the Army Reserves.
He was a life member of the Erie County Conservation League, a member of the Sandusky Jaycees, Sandusky Yacht Club, Sandusky Power Squadron and R.S.E.S, a co-founder of the V.I.A. Club in Sandusky and was a flag man for the Sandusky Speedway.
Following retirement, Howard worked on high performance boats at Griffith's Engine and Machine shop, delivered boats on the Great Lakes for Lakeside Marina, and was employed as a maintenance engineer for the former Universal Clay company. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Mr. Otto is survived by his fianc, Jane Wilke of Johannesburg, Mich., and Sandusky; daughters, Shelly (Jude) Roth and Kim (Rick) Parker of Sandusky; grandchildren, Bryce and Shaina Roth; his sister, Joan Hildebrand; and several nieces and a nephew.
His parents preceded him in death.
Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Monday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Elmer Novak of Emmanuel United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
