Mildred "Millie" E. Kistler, 94, of Bellevue died, July 4, 2007, in Audrich Care Center, Bellevue.
Millie was born Jan. 10, 1913, in Sandusky, to Edward and Emma (Ebert) Rosswurm. She graduated from Sandusky High School in 1930 and attended Sandusky Business College while working at American Crayon Company, Sandusky. Mildred married William M. Kistler June 18, 1938. They enjoyed 38 years together before his passing in 1976.
Mildred and her husband owned and operated Bill's Market, downtown Bellevue, from 1941-86 when Mildred retired. It was the typical mom-and-pop grocery store. As Mildred's children recall, it was a true "family affair." Everyone had a part in the family business. Millie was best known in the community for her donut making in the front window of the store as well as her irresistible homemade peanut clusters and haystack chocolates known as "Millie's Fancy."
Mildred was also a homemaker with flair and incorporated a palette of color in all she created. She was a fabulous seamstress and designed several of her girls and grandchildren's clothes until just the last decade. Even into Millie's golden years she was well aware of the latest in fashion and accessories. Many of her family, as well as friends, will say Millie's greatest legacy is her gourmet cooking and her sharing of recipes that they'll savor and continue to pass down for generations. She was a great role model for a balance between hard work, family, and home.
After her retirement, Mildred also enjoyed working at The Bellevue Hospital Gift Shop and was a member of the Bellevue Hospital Auxiliary. She is also the last of the original five "Golden Girls." Mildred was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, Bellevue.
Mildred is survived by two daughters, Scherl (Bill) Koch and Jill (Don) Didion, both of Bellevue, and one daughter-in-law, Jane Foos Kistler of Costa Mesa, Calif.; grandchildren, Kim (Bruce) Nichols of Fountain Valley, Calif., Kari (Stan) Andrakowicz of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., William Kistler of Seal Beach, Calif., Khris Kistler of Costa Mesa, Kirk (Debbie) Kistler of Crestline, Calif., Donald (Julie) Didion of Sunbury, Ohio, Jeremy Didion of Delaware, Ohio, and Seth (Kristy) Didion, Joshua Didion, Nathan (Linda) Didion, K.J. Koch and Hayley Koch, all of Bellevue; and 17 great-grandchildren from California and Ohio.
Besides her husband Mildred was preceded in death by a son, William L. Kistler; and parents; and three brothers, Edward, Robert and Richard Rosswurm.
