Jack E. Etherington Sr., 79, of Huron, passed away unexpectedly late Friday evening, June 29, 2007, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky.
He was born June 8, 1928, in Marion, Ind., and was a 1947 graduate of Margaretta High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War. He retired July 1, 1991, from Ford Motor Company, where he worked for nearly 30 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and had been attending St. Peter Catholic Church in Huron. He was also a member of Huron Eagles Aerie 2875 and American Legion Post 83. For many years he was an avid boater and enjoyed boating to Kelleys Island.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan C. (Deleruyelle) Etherington; children, Mary (Steve) Lanke of Charles Town, W.Va., Suzanne (Brent) Fahrer of Bowling Green, Ohio, Deby (Scott) Lutton of Sylvania, Ohio, Joanie (Scott) Borsick of Sandusky, Jim Etherington of Tawas City, Mich., Julie (Dan Miller) Etherington of Sandusky and Mike (Kelly) Etherington of Trenton, Mich.; 12 grandchildren, Adam, Jamie, Nolan, Matthew, Sarah, Alex, Zach, Christy, Nate, Avery, Skylar and Jackson; sisters, Greta Jo (Tom) Schoen of Lorain and Penny (Karl) Schmidlin of Middle Bass Island; brother, Reggie (Judy) Etherington of Norwalk; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Mildred (Presnall) Etherington; son, Jack E. Etherington Jr. (in 1983); and brother, Richard Etherington.
Visitation will be from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today at David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, and from 9 a.m. Tuesday until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main St., Huron.
The Rev. Jeffery Sikorski will officiate. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
