Mrs. Katharine Rudy, 91, of 2811 Mulberry Drive, Sandusky, died early Saturday morning, June 30, 2007, after a brief illness.

Born June 12, 1916, in Marion, Ohio, she was the daughter of K.H. and Bertha (Shaw) Marshall, now deceased. She was a 1933 graduate of Marion Harding High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1937 and a Masters of Nursing from Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University in 1940. On Dec. 27, 1941, she married Harry J. Rudy in Findlay, Ohio, and they celebrated 57 years of marriage at the time of his death May 29, 1999.

Katharine is best remembered as the coordinator for the Sandusky School of Practical Nursing from 1962 until retirement in June 1977. She also served as a general duty nurse and head nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital in Sandusky for many years. She began her nursing career with the Badger Construction Company in West Virginia as a head nurse. Katharine served as a member of Huron City Council for eight years from 1960-68. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Huron, and Zonta International.

She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Rudy of Sandusky and Mrs. Patricia (Charles) Coutellier of Hilliard, Ohio; son, William (Sue) Rudy of Marion, Ohio; three grandchildren, Melissa (David) Hoffman of Prospect, Ohio, Tracey (Jeff) Travis of Hilliard, Ohio, and Christopher Rudy of Columbus; and four great-grandchildren, Alyson and Andrea Hoffman and Jacob and Kaylee Travis.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Huron First Presbyterian Church, 225 Williams St. The Rev. David Aber of the church, and the Rev. David Hoffman of Prospect United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park.
