Rita H. Shela, 83, of Port Clinton, died Saturday evening, June 23, 2007, in Otterbein Northshore Retirement Community, Lakeside-Marblehead.
She was the beloved wife of the late Charles J. Shela. She was predeceased by brothers, Ernst, Otto, Oscar, and Gerhardt Hintz; and by sisters, Ida Wrinn and Eva Tweeddale.
She is survived by her sister, Hilda Fenn of Hartford County, Conn.; and by many nieces and nephews.
Rita Gertrude (Hintz) was born Jan. 14, 1924, in Bristol, Conn., the fourth daughter of Stanislaus and Dorothea Krueger Hintz. She attended local schools and then spent the bulk of her working career at New Departure-Hyatt, Division of General Motors, first in its Bristol location and then, in Sandusky. Mrs. Shela and her late husband resided on Catawba Island in Port Clinton for many years. In retirement, Rita and "Jay" continued to enjoy boating, their bowling leagues and travel to Jay's annual WW II veteran's association gatherings. They were faithful members of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Clinton and were affiliated with the Elks Lodge. Mrs. Shela was, prior to her relocating to Ohio, a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the family parish, in Bristol.
There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, with memorial services at a later date.
