Ronald M. Garner, 82, of Mount Dora, Fla., and Sandusky, died early Saturday afternoon, June 16, 2007, in Waterman Village, Mount Dora, after a lengthy illness.
He was born April 16, 1925, in Richland County, Ohio. He retired from the former Vulcan Materials Company in 1986, after 41 years of service, and was a Lake Erie charter captain for 12 years. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Sandusky.
Mr. Garner is survived by his wife, Jennie V. (Goodsite) Garner, whom he married Aug. 19, 1943; two sons, Ronald G. (Carol) Garner of Friday Harbor, Wash., and David A. (Anna) Garner of Hagerstown, Md.; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two brothers, David Z. Garner of Memphis, Tenn., and Robert Garner of Sandusky; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Ada (Connelly) Garner; and two brothers, Carroll and Nelson Garner.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday with Pastor Ned Bixler of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk.
