Eugene H. Kelley, 84, of the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky and formerly of Milan, died Friday morning, June 15, 2007, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a lengthy illness.
He was born April 11, 1923, in Huron, and was a graduate of Sandusky High School. Eugene was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He was employed as the manager of the Sandusky Yacht Club, retiring in the mid-1980s.
Prior to that he was the caretaker of Rattlesnake Island, had worked at the former Clevite Co. in Milan and at the former Apex Manufacturing. He was a life member of VFW Post 2743 in Norwalk and the Milan American Legion Post.
He is survived by three sons, Richard (Jon) Kelley of New London, David (Cheryl) Kelley of Norwalk and Timothy (Jenny) Kelley of Wakeman; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson, three sisters, Agnes Redman of Boulevard, Calif., and Pat and Carol Hamisfar, both of Norwalk; one brother, Julius Kelley Jr. of Willard; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Walczak) Kelley in 1991; his parents, Julius and Abbie (Shirley) Kelley Sr.; and one brother, Stanley Kelley.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Castalia Cemetery with the Rev. Joyce E. Schroer officiating. The American Legion Post 83 will also conduct graveside military rites.
