Eleanor "Ellie" Slocum, 65, of Austintown, passed away Friday, June 1, 2007, in Austinwoods Care Center.
Ellie was born July 25, 1941, in Sandusky, to William and Ella (Roscoe) Tarrant, now deceased. She worked in the deli department at Country Fair for 10 years before retiring in 2005. She was a 1959 graduate of Vermilion High School. She enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles and gardening. She married John Slocum, Oct. 8, 1960, and he preceded her in death Jan. 23, 2005.
Ellie leaves five children, Fred Slocum of Austintown, Bernice Bottomlee of Fitchville, Mark Slocum of Norwalk, John (Beth) Slocum Jr., serving in the U.S. Navy in Bremerton, Wash., and Shawn (Jim) Dowdy of Austintown; two sisters, Nancy (Jerry) Emery and Ginny (Dave) Wilkes; three brothers, Bill (Lois) Tarrant, Al Tarrant, and Rich (Georgie) Tarrant; and 11 grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents, Ellie was preceded in death by a sister, Zella; and a brother, Phil.
There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. June 23, 2007, in United Church of Christ, Vermilion.
