Linda "Sigi" V. (Holzner) McGraw, 68 , of Sandusky, met the Lord on Thursday, June 7, 2007, surrounded by her family in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, after a brief illness.
She was born Dec. 31, 1938, in Schlossberg, Germany. She first came to the United States in 1959. Linda traveled to the United States with her husband who was serving in the military. On April 1, 1970, she chose to make her home in the United States and proudly became a U.S. citizen July 3, 1993.
In Linda's younger years she worked in the family's catering and guest house business, serving local GI's in Germany. She also worked in the officer's club. She then went to nursing school and graduated to become an LPN. She worked at various nursing homes and for hospice, caring for the elderly and cancer patients. In 1983, she opened a catering/concession business of her own, SIGI's Bratwurst, selling homemade brats and cabbage and noodles until retirement in 2005.
The family business is still carried on through her husband and daughter at various fairs and festivals. Linda was a talented seamstress, and recently taught her sewing skills to her youngest granddaughter.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, gardening and home decor.
Survivors include her loving husband of 31 years, Joe McGraw of Sandusky; children, Mona Kay (Jim) Petro of Grays Lake, Ill., Patricia (Tony) Rodisel of Vermilion, Steve (Lori) Hathaway of Vermilion; Dennis McGraw of Winterhaven, Fla., Mitzi (Butch) of West Virginia, Lisa (Stephen) Gifford of Advance, N.C., and Myra (Al) Doak of West Virginia; granddaughters, Alicia, McKenzie, Tiffany, Kristi and Morgan; grandsons Michael, Todd, Brett, Danny, Ethan and Sean; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Walter, Eric, Reingardt Veronica and Manfred; and by her parents, Otto and Frieda (Schonmetz) Holzner .
Friends may call from 11 a.m. Monday until prayer services at 2 p.m. in Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. The Rev. Robert Nickester of the Church of God in Sandusky will officiate. A luncheon will follow at Harbour Town Community Foursquare Church, 873 State St., Vermilion.
