Dorothy E. Gates Missig, 89, of Norwalk and formerly of Monroeville, died Thursday evening, June 7, 2007, in Norwalk Memorial Home after a lengthy illness.
She was born April 23, 1918, in Norwalk, and was a graduate of Norwalk St. Paul High School. Dorothy was employed as a court reporter in the Common Pleas Courts of Huron and Erie counties, retiring in 1980. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Monroeville and the Daughters of Isabella.
She is survived by two sons, Donald (Diane) Gates of Grafton and Douglas (Sandra) Gates of Norwalk; three grandchildren, John Gates of Elyria, Cari Gates of Portsmouth, Va., and Stefan Gates of Sarasota, Fla.; two brothers, Harold Schafer of Monroeville and George Schafer of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters, Sister Eleanor Schafer and Sister Bernadette Schafer, both of Toledo, and Mary Lippert of Mayfield Heights, Ohio; eight stepchildren, Marlene (Bob) Obringer of Powell, Ohio, Marvin (Janet) Missig and Jim (Jean) Missig, both of Illinois, Bob (Carol) Missig of Milan, Fred Missig of Norwalk, Susann (Ken) Harris of North Fairfield, Donna (Steve) Wilhelm of Monroeville, and Donald (Nancy) Missig of Oak Harbor, stepdaughter-in-law, Judy Missig of Norwalk; 26 stepgrandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Gates in 1948; second husband, Robert Missig in 1994; her parents, Alfred and Eleanor (Meyer) Schafer; sister, Rita Schafer; brother in infancy, Bernard Schafer; stepson, Kenneth Missig and one step-granddaughter.
At the request of the deceased, her body has been donated to Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland.
Dorothy's family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Sunday in Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe St., where Christian Wake Services will be 4:45 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 66 Chapel St. Monroeville, with the Rev. Kenneth J. Lill officiating.
