Erika A. (Paul) Schlaak, 68, of Huron, died Thursday morning, May 24, 2007, in her home, surrounded by family, after almost a year-long battle with cancer.
Erika was a graduate of Moorestown Friends School, Moorestown, N.J., in 1956, and Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass., in 1960. A longtime resident of Huron, she served the community through her work with organizations, including St. Peter's Catholic Church, Victory Kitchen and Goodwill Book Sales. Erika was a strong advocate for peace in the world and was a founding member of Voices for Peace and Justice. She was blessed with many very close friends. Erika loved living in Huron and enjoyed its natural beauty.
Erika is survived by five children, daughters, Ann E. (Robert) Miller of Lynnfield, Mass., Monika M. (Stephen) Fitzpatrick of Freeport, Maine, and Erika M. (Chip) Lupacchino of Chicago and sons, Paul R. (Lori) of Wakeman and Christopher G. (Janet) of Amelia, Ohio; mother-in-law, Elizabeth A. Schlaak (100 years old) of East Longmeadow, Mass.; and seven grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband J. David; son, John; mother, Ann Paul; and father, Erich Paul and his wife, Myrtle.
Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday in Foster Funeral Home, 410 Main St., Huron. A Funeral Mass will immediately follow in St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main St., Huron.
