Richard Francis Manner Sr., 87, of Sandusky, died Sunday, May 20, 2007, in Stein Hospice Care Center.
He was born Feb. 9, 1920, in Sandusky, and served in the U.S. Marines from 1942 to 1945.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, American Legion Post 83, VFW Post 2529 and AMVETS Post 17.
He is survived by his wife, Concetta (Esposito) Manner; daughters, Sharon (Donald) Ford, Warren, Ohio, Frances (Michael) Brennan of Sandusky, and Brenda (Glen) Witsaman of Medina, Ohio; sons, Bernie (Carrie) Bottger, Anthem, Ariz., Rick (Marianne) Manner of Canton, Mich., and Craig (Ann) Manner of Bellevue; 12 grandchildren; sisters, Sister Teresasita of Toledo, Tess Rinner of Norwalk and Rosie Manner of Sandusky; brother, Jim Manner of Monroeville, Pa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Agnes; parents, Frederick and Amelia (Fitz) Manner; sisters, Coletta Bayer, Jerry Roth, Margaret Wehner, Marilyn Siems and Dorothy Notestine; and brothers, Ed Manner, Paul Manner and Robert Manner.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where VFW Post 2529 will host memorial services at 7:30 p.m. Prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Douglas Garand will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, with American Legion Post 83 providing military honors.
