Clarence D. Burchfield, 73, Sandusky, died Saturday, May 19, 2007, at his residence.
He was born April 13, 1934, in Monroe, Mich., to Luther and Rhoda Ellen (Pierce) Burchfield, and was raised by his aunt and uncle, Barbara and Ernest Pierce, along with their four children.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958, in Korea for 16 months in the DMZ Message Center, 7th Calvary, and he proudly displayed the U.S. flag at his home.
He was employed by Ford Motor Company for 42 years, retiring in 1994.
He was a member of UAW Local 1216, where he served as recording secretary and benefits representative for many years, and was serving as President of Local 1216 UAW retirees chapter, which gave him great pleasure; and was active in Little League for many years, and Perkins Schools activities.
He is survived by his wife, Bettye (Powers) Burchfield, whom he married in 1958; sons, Martin (Susan) Burchfield of Van Wert, Ohio, and James (Michelle) Burchfield, Ashland, Ohio; grandchildren, William and Alexis; sisters, Margaret (Roy) Breeding of Monroe, Mich., Alice (Jack) Hopson of Temperance, Mich., and Wanda (Robert) Anderson of Monroe County, Mich.; and a special cousin, Jean (Hugh) Henegar.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Arnold Pierce; and cousin, LeRoy Bailey.
Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 214 E. Jefferson St., Sandusky, with the Rev. Bruce Morrison, officiating Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
