Rollin B. "Rollie" Kocher, 97, of North Gamble Street, Shelby, Ohio, died Thursday, May 17, 2007, in Crestwood Care Center.
Rollie was born Oct. 20, 1909, in Moxahala, Ohio, the son of Pearley A. and Louisa Kocher, now deceased. Prior to moving to Shelby in 1945, Rollie lived in Newark, Ohio, where he worked at Owens-Corning Fiberglass and had an auto body and fender shop with his brother Clarence. In Shelby, he worked as a foreman for several auto body repair shops: Gump's, Bud Young's, Barker's, Bourgeois' and Bloom & Johnson.
He was an active member of First United Methodist Church where he ushered for more than 40 years and was instrumental in starting a widowers group. Rollie's smile and happy disposition will be missed by family, friends and strangers. He was loved by all.
On June 1, 1935, he married the love of his life, Mary F. Strosnider. Together, they raised two children. The children and their spouses survive, John A. and Cheryl Kocher of Port Clinton, and Sue A. and David Clingan of Shelby; five grandchildren and their spouses, Amy and Curtis Carter, Molly and Steve Hayman , Eric and Jill Kocher, Gretchen and David Klotz and Brad and Amy Kocher; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Rollie was the last of nine children. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Clarence; and seven sisters, Olive, Izabelle, Mary, Grace, Izora, Annie and Gladys, along with his wife, Mary, on May 29, 1987.
Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Turner Funeral Home, 168 W. Main St., Shelby, and from 10:30 a.m. Monday until funeral services at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Shelby. The Rev. Gail Angel will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Shelby.
