Pete Hiltz, 81, of Charlotte, N.C. passed away May 12, 2007.
He was born in Sandusky to Frederick Peter Hiltz Jr. and Blanche Allen Hiltz. Pete served in the Army-Air Force in the China-Burma-India Theater Operations with the 11th Combat Cargo Squadron as an air maintenance radar mechanic from 1944-46 and was awarded the Bronze Star. He married Betty Ann Doyle in June of 1951 and began a 34-year career with E.I. Dupont. After retiring from E.I. Dupont, Pete and Betty enjoyed operating the family business, The China Connection, in Pineville, N.C.
Pete's life revolved around his wife, four sons, two daughters and eight grandchildren. His consideration of others welfare, achievements, and contentment was his focus. Pete enjoyed tennis, family beach trips, holiday gatherings and was well known for his cooking. His devotion to all made him the outstanding husband and father his family knew and loved.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Betty Doyle Hiltz; son, Peter (Lynne) Hiltz IV of Charlotte; grandsons Peter "V"; great-grandson, Daniel; grandson Jack Hiltz; son, Jeffrey Hiltz of Waxhaw, N.C.; son, Bradley (Cindy) Hiltz; granddaughters, Elizabeth, Kaitlyn and Brooke Hiltz of Virginia Beach, Va.; daughter, Alison Hiltz of Raleigh, N.C.; daughter, Colleen Hiltz of Charlotte; son, Jonathan (Christy) Hiltz; grandchildren, Kheagan, Shane and Morgan Hiltz of Olive Branch, Miss.; and his beloved sister, Kathleen Davlin of Sandusky.
Visitation will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday with a mass immediately following at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6828 Old Reid Road, Charlotte. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn East in Matthews, N.C.
