Burnell J. "Buck" Nissen, 82, of Sandusky, died Monday evening, May 7, 2007, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, South Campus.
He was born Oct. 13, 1924, in Port Clinton and was employed by Esmond Dairy for 30 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and served in the National Guard. He was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, where he sang in the choir, formerly sang with the Firelands Chorus, and Resurrection Lutheran Church Choir, member of the AMVETS Post 17, Sandusky, VFW Post 2529, Sandusky, American Legion Post 83, Sandusky, the Sandusky Radio Experimental League, enjoyed golf and playing the harmonica.
He is survived by his daughter, Beverly (Allen) Amstutz in Evansville, Ind., sons, Gary A. (Joanne) Nissen of Huron and Jack F. (Gloria) Nissen of Wakeman; grandchildren, Bradley and Grant Amstutz, Julie McKee, Janna Soja, Andrew Nissen, Matthew Martineau, Erik Nissen and Zachary Nissen; great-grandchildren, Bryce Amstutz, Kaden Kujo and Zachary McKee; loving companion, Jean Grahl of Sandusky; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline "Jackie" (Harple) Nissen on Sept. 23, 1999; parents, John and Bertha (Durdel) Nissen; sisters, Alma Nissen and Katherine at birth; brothers, Alton "Red" Nissen and Charles "Chuck" Nissen.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where services will be 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Elmer Novak will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, where the American Legion Post 83 will render military honors.
