Ezekiel Rainey, 91, of 1802 Putnam St., Sandusky, passed way Monday, April 30, 2007, after a brief illness.
He was born April 26, 1916, in Thurnton, Miss. He was employed as a mechanic and crane operator with Brown Industrial for 11 years and Moser Construction for 3 years, where he worked on the Ohio Turnpike construction. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and VFW Post 2529.
Mr. Rainey is survived by a daughter, Rosalee Franklin of Kansas City; two sons, Herbert (Elouise) Rainey of Sandusky and L.V. (Michelle) Rainey of Kansas City; a stepson, Larry (Nettie) Hall of Cleveland; and stepdaughter, Hazel (Doug) Thompson of Cleveland; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his best friend, William Moore.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie (Shelton) Rainey, in February 2003; a son, Ezekiel Rainey; a daughter, Lilly B. Rainey; and his parents, Ezekiel and Liza (Williams) Rainey.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Pierce St., Sandusky, with The Rev. Curtis A. Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery of Sandusky.
