Brenda R. "G-Mama" Stookey, 66, of Vickery, was guided by angels as she went home to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, Dec. 18, 2011, at her sister's home in Bellevue, surrounded by her family, after a two-year battle with cancer.
She was born March 23, 1945, in Norwalk, the daughter of Roy Leon and Ruth May (Link) Scriver. She worked as a nurse's aide for more than 30 years at Magruder Hospital, the Lutheran Memorial Home and later at Providence Care Center, retiring in April 2010. Brenda enjoyed crafts and being a part of her grandchildren's lives. She could never resist going to flea markets or hitting a good garage sale. She had attended the Wayside Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Kenneth W. (Michelle) Stookey Jr., and a daughter, Kimberly (Charles) McNair, both of Whites Landing; five grandchildren, Nicholas Riedy, Matthew and Anthony Stookey, and Cortney and Danielle McNair; great-granddaughter, RayLynn Stookey; mother, Ruth (Link-Parker) Coy of Plymouth; four brothers, Dennis (Donna) Scriver of Clyde, Russell "Rusty" (Pat) Scriver of North Fairfield, David (Joanne) Coy of Sandusky and Kevin Coy of Plymouth; two sisters, Linda (Marvin) Lewis of Bellevue and Tina (Marvin) Shepherd of Monroeville; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Roy L. Scriver; stepfather, Christian Coy Jr.; husband, Kenneth W. Stookey Sr.; a daughter in infancy, Karolyn D. Stookey; and nephew, Kenneth A. Lewis.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at the funeral home. The Rev. Rusty Yost will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
