Joseph J. Faber, 90, of Sandusky, died Saturday morning, April 28, 2007, in Providence Care Center, after a brief illness.
He was born June 8, 1916, in Sandusky. He was a 1935 graduate of St. Mary High School. He attended Purdue University, Bowling Green State University and Sandusky Business College. He was employed by Scott Paper Company, retiring in 1980 after 25 years, and the former Farm Bureau Insurance Company (now Nationwide Insurance Company).
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, St. Vincent De Paul Society, Catholic Order of Foresters, YMCA Men's Fellowship and the CCAB (formerly CHSAF) and was a 3rd Degree-Knights of Columbus. He was a former lay Communion distributor, St. Mary's Choir member, usher and was on the finance committee at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Hacker) Faber, whom he married Oct. 4, 1941; one daughter, Rose (Dennis) Messenburg of Sandusky; three sons, Larry (Bonnie) Faber, Dennis (Beverly) Faber and David (Lisa) Faber, all of Sandusky; grandchildren, Christy Faber, Julie Yaratch, Tad Faber, Amy Wyshar, Jennifer Guerra, Shelley Tobin, Joshua Messenburg, Nathan Faber, Colin Faber and Austin Faber; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary (Kauer) Faber, one grand daughter.
Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. today at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Phil Feltman will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
