George R. Mattey, 90, of Huron, died Friday, April 27, 2007, in Concord Care and Rehab Center, Sandusky.

He was born May 18, 1916, in Star Junction, Pa., and has been a resident of Huron since 1936, coming from Lorain. He graduated from Oberlin College. He was a self-employed Certified Public Accountant from 1943-89 in the Huron area. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Huron, Huron Knights of Columbus, the National Society of Public Accountants; and served as chairman of the Erie County Democratic Party.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mary Florence (Mittler); a daughter, Jean Andrea Mattey of Westlake; a sister, Margaret Traband of Huron; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Maria (Pilar) Mattey; and brothers, John and Andrew Mattey.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday in Foster Funeral Home, 410 Main St., Huron. A funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Monday in St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main St., Huron. The Rev. Jeffery Sikorski will officiate. A luncheon will follow. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
