H. Joyce Barrett, 81, of Sandusky, passed away late Thursday evening, April 26, 2007, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a brief illness.
She was born Oct. 16, 1925, in Sandusky, and was a 1943 graduate of Sandusky High School. She had worked as a secretary at Perkins High School from 1962 until retirement in 1985. Prior to that, she worked at Esmond Dairy from 1943-52. Joyce loved her cats, baking and cross word puzzles. She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church and a volunteer at the Humane Society of Erie County.
She is survived by her daughter, Naomi (James) Hazelwood of Sandusky; son, Stanley (Renee) Barrett of Sandusky; stepson, Terry (Paula) Barrett of Sandusky; two grandsons, Matthew Barrett of Columbus and Nathan Barrett of Sandusky; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Carl and Helen Johanna (Erdman) Papke; husband, Clayton C. "Clay" or "Doc" Barrett in 1983; daughter, Helen, in infancy in1950; three sisters, Marie Hughes, Charlotte Wonderland and Catherine Ryan; and two brothers, Paul and Carl Papke.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday in David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where private family services will be Monday. Chaplain Clyde Mayberry, of Stein Hospice, will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
