Gertrude Guy, 90, of Toledo, passed away Monday evening, April 23, 2007, in Firelands Regional Medical Center.
Gertrude was one of 17 children born to Harry and Elsie Seymour of Toledo on Feb. 5, 1917. She managed restaurants in Toledo for 40 years, including Don's Drive-In, where she was also part owner of Bummie's Restaurant in Adrian, Mich. She later worked for Gladieux Corporation managing the student union at the University of Toledo and the Briefeater in downtown Toledo. While working for Gladieux she was awarded Manager of the Year, receiving a Hawaiian vacation, prior to her retirement in 1979. Gertrude, along with her husband, Edmund, owned the Music Box, where teens danced to the latest jukebox hits during the early 1960s. She truly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who always made her smile when they would visit with her. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sandusky.
She is survived her husband of 73 years, Edmund Guy; two daughters, Judy (Richard) Kinzel of Sandusky and Susan (Warren) Smith of Toledo; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived my numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Elsie (Birdsell) Seymour; six sisters; and nine brothers.
Friends will be received from 3-8 p.m. Friday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky, with The Rev. Philip Feltman officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Toledo.
