William S. "Bill" Dix, 76, of Sandusky, died early Saturday morning, April 21, 2007, in Concord Care and Rehabilitation Center, after a brief illness.
Bill was born July 11, 1930, in Leander, W.Va. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the U.S.S. Borie as a machinist mate, 2nd class, during the Korean War 1948-52. After his discharge from the Navy, he returned to West Virginia and later came to Sandusky. Bill was employed at Diamond Fertilizer and Aluminum-Magnesium. He then worked for the Ford Motor Co., Sandusky, and retired after 32 years of service. After several years of retirement Bill worked at Marathon Friendship Store on Cleveland Road for 15 years, where he made many friends. He was a life member of Sandusky VFW Post 2529 and a member of AMVETS. Bill enjoyed working in his yard and garden.
Survivors include his wife, Janette J. (Melchor) Dix of Sandusky; sons, Daniel (Sue) Dix of Sandusky and Steven (Diane) Dix of Castalia; grandsons, Trevor Allan and Bryce Evan Dix, both of Castalia, and Shawn Dix of Clarksville, Tenn.; and great-grandson, Myland Dix of Clarksville, brother, Buren "Wes" Dix of Castalia; sister-in-law, Margaret (Melchor) Chidester; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Leah (White) Dix; brother, James Dix; and sister, Doris Ekstein.
Private family services will be held. Arrangements entrusted to Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky.
