ACME (BEAR ROCK), Pa.
Ronald E. Daugherty, 72, of Acme (Bear Rock), Pa., died suddenly Saturday, April 14, 2007, in Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville.
He was born Sept. 9, 1934, in Jeannette, Pa., the son of Vera (Wade) Daugherty, now deceased. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and while serving in Japan joined a band, The Pastels, as an alto saxophone player.
Following the military, Ronald was employed as a printer with the Rehabilitation Center and Workshop of Western Pennsylvania and with Palace Printer in Greensburg, Pa. Finally he worked as a security guard for Seven Springs Resort until his retirement in 1998. He was an avid collector of celebrity autographs, space memorabilia and coins.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara A. Helwig-Daugherty of Bear Rocks; a son, Richard (Lynne) Daugherty of Sandusky; two daughters, Debra (Dr. John) Pedrow of Monroeville and Linda (James) Taylor of South Carolina; 13 grandchildren, Ryan, Nathan, Kyle, Rachael, Jaimilyn, Zachary, Alex, Nicholas, Daniel, Joy, Jaye, Lynze and Keli; a great-grandson, Ayden; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, South Fourth Street and Bullitt Avenue, Jeannette, Pa. Arrangements are being handled by McClure & Jobe Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 112 N. Second St., Jeannette, PA 15644.
