Flora C. Blankenship, 95, of Sandusky, died Saturday, April 14, 2007, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky.
She was born Jan. 29, 1912, the oldest of 12 children, to Rebecca and Shelby Canterbury in the Huntington, W.Va., area. She was raised in Delbarton, W. Va., until 1951 before moving to Ohio with her husband, George. They lived in Norwalk and Sandusky.
She worked at Philco Corp. and was a co-founder of the Bogart Road Church of God. She was a very dedicated member of her church and was devoted to serving God's calling throughout the duration of her life. She loved to travel with her husband and friends. She enjoyed her large family reunions with all of her many nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Blankenship is survived by her son, Thomas (Gene) Blankenship of Huron; four grandchildren, Kathryn (Klement) Kackovic, Thomas Blankenship Jr., George (Joellen) Blankenship and Pamela (Adam) Coles; four great-grandchildren, Jon Nickols Jr., Erin Blankenship and William and Wyatt Coles; her caregiver and "adopted granddaughter," April Blankenship; and two brothers, Lawrence and Smithy Canterbury.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, George Blankenship, in 1988; her parents, Shelby and Rebecca Canterbury; and several brothers and sisters.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. today at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, with Pastor David Brown of The Chapel officiating. Entombment will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
