Warren G. Scharman, 90, of 423 Cedar Point Road, Sandusky, died late Friday morning, April 13, 2007, in Parkvue Health Care after a brief illness.
He was born April 6, 1917, in Huron and was a graduate of Huron High School. He retired from M. A. Hanna Co. in 1973, as chief engineer on lake freighters, after 40 years of service.
Warren was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, where he served as both a deacon and an elder, on the Consistory of Emmanuel Church. He was a 50-year member of Mason Marks Lodge 359, Huron, Consistory Scottish Rite, Valley of Toledo and the Singara Grotto. He was also a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio, Sandusky Chapter 72; Grand Council Royal Select Masons Sandusky Council 26; Knight Templars Erie Commandery 023, Sandusky; Order Eastern Star 171, Huron Chapter; Shrine Ienobia Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Toledo; Sandusky High Twelve Club and was the past president of the Firelands Shrine Club, member of the Huron Eagles Aerie 2875, and life member BPO Elks Lodge 285, Sandusky.
He is survived by his daughter, Valerie (Jeff) Downs of Sandusky; a granddaughter, Morgan Downs; a grandson, Jared Downs; special friends, Beverly and Leroy Berkey of Fort Myers, Fla.; as well as several cousins and other relatives.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Vaughn M. (Heim), who died in 1974; daughter, Darlene Scharman; parents, Rolland and Miranda (Bartlett) Scharman; brother, Ralph; and special companion, Gladys Charles.
There will be no visitation at the request of the deceased. Memorial services will be later at Emmanuel UCC. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
