Mercedes (Graber) Beat, 83, of 4871 S. Twp. Road 197, Attica, died Wednesday, April 11, 200, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.
She was born Oct. 12, 1923, in Fostoria, Ohio, to George and Marvalen (Halfhill) Graber. On Oct. 4, 1947, in Fostoria, she married Harold Beat, and he survives. They would have been married 60 years in October. She was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Attica and the Altar Rosary Society. She served as a 4-H advisor for more than 30 years. She received the first Irene Martin Attica Fair Service Award for outstanding dedication to the Attica Fair in 1993, and the 2001 Community service Award by the Seneca East Young Farmers. She was a past member of the Attica Lioness and Lions Club. She served many meals at the Knights of Columbus Hall, church dinners and the Dairy Bar at the Seneca County Fair. She assisted her husband on the family farm for many years.
Survivors include, three daughters, Christine (Richard) Hillman of Davisburg, Mich., Marlene Beat of Avon Lake, Ohio, and Charlene (Fred) Bono of St. Charles, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Anothony (Dolores) Beat of Bryan, Texas; three sons, Jeffrey Beat of Port Clinton, Gregory (Opal) Beat and Mark (Cindy) Beat, both of Attica; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Graber; and a son, Anthony Beat.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Sunday at Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. Ohio 19, Bloomville, where a Christian Wake Service will be 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Attica, with The Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will be at a later date at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Attica.
