Eleanor M. (Simon) Gilbert, 87, of Sandusky, died Friday morning, March 23, 2007, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness.
She was born May 14, 1919 in Akron, Ohio, and was a 1938 graduate of Ravenna High School. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Gilbert was alsoa member of the First Christian Church in Sandusky, where she had been active in a number of church organizations. She loved camping.
Mrs. Gilbert is survived by eight children, Evelyn (James) Baum of Castalia, twins, Edna (Scotty) McColloch of Anchorage, Ark., and Karl E. Gilbert of Akron, Margaret Morehart of Tiffin, Ohio, Irene G. Fisher of Beckley, W.Va., Odessa E. Gilbert of Tiffin, James B. Gilbert and August (Delores) Gilbert, both of Sandusky; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Karl Gilbert, Nov. 29, 1993; her parents, George and Carrie (Lansinger) Simon; and two sisters, Catherine Rohrmann and Thelma Lowther.
Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. Sunday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where services will be 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will follow in the Castalia Cemetery.
