Gary M. "Mike" Shepherd, 57, of Sandusky, went home to be with the Lord Thursday morning, March 22, 2007, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 2, 1949, in Beckley, W. Va., and was a 1967 graduate of Perkins High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired in 1998 after nearly 30 years from New Departure Hyatt (division of GM). He was a member of the American Legion, AMVETS, and a former member of the Erie Co. Conservation League. His pasttimes included hunting, fishing, the outdoors and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Michael (Nannette) Shepherd of Sandusky; three daughters, Robyn Shepherd of Columbus, Ohio, and Kelly (Kendrick) Scott and Christine Vaccaro, both of Sandusky; nine grandchildren, Chasity, Michael, Morgan, Allyson, Lauren, Kelsey, Dathon, Kendrick Jr., Kye; mother, Maye M. (Cozart) Shepherd; brother, Ken (Chris) Shepherd of Berlin Heights; sister, Cheryl (Jim) LeGron of Vermilion; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lester "Dale" Shepherd.
At his request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Monday in David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. David Flack will officiate. Interment will be at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
