Lonnie Ray Gibbs, 42, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully early Wednesday afternoon, March 21, 2007, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a brief illness.
Lonnie was born April 17, 1964 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and attended Margaretta High School.
Lonnie worked for many years in construction and carpentry. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandson, Ta'zavier "Taz." Lonnie was known to his children's friends as "Poppa Gibbs." He was always ready to lend a helping hand to whomever needed it, and was not one to ask for anything in return.
He is survived and will be sadly missed by his wife, Kelly A. Gibbs of Sandusky; daughter, Brittany Gibbs, Sandusky; sons, Charles D. Gibbs, Daniel R. Gibbs and Chad J. Gibbs, all of Sandusky, and Randal T. Gibbs of Bellevue; grandson, Ta'zavier "Taz"; brother, Tom (Judy) Gibbs of Vickery; sister, Connie (Cotton) Edwards of True, W.Va.; brother-in-law, Robert Smith of Sandusky; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rose and Chuck Sanders; sisters-in-law, Kim (Joe) Butts and Kristi (Bob) Rzasa; brother-in-law, Chuck (Patti) Sanders; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Neva (Warner) Gibbs; sister, Kathy Smith; a granddaughter in infancy; and a special aunt, Deborah J. Hanson.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. Saturday until services at 3 p.m. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky.
