Roy S. Patterson Jr., 86, of Sandusky, passed away late Sunday evening, March 18, 2007, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky, after an illness.

He was born June 20, 1920, in Sandusky, and was a 1939 graduate of Sandusky High School. As a youth, he was involved in Sunday school, Boy Scouts Troop 8 and Luther League. Prior to going into the service, he was an apprentice pattern maker at Sandusky Foundry & Machine. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps during WWII, having served overseas from Nov. 4, 1942, to Nov. 21, 1945, in the Asiatic Pacific in the U.S. 11th Air Force Signal Corps. He received two Bronze Stars with oak leaf clusters. After being discharged, he returned to his apprenticeship. At the time of his death he was president and CEO of Patterson Model & Pattern Co., which he started in June 1961 with his wife, Victoria E. "Mickey" (Sartor) Patterson, who died June 24, 2006.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Sandusky, where in 1940 he joined the Zion Brotherhood. He served on Zion Church Council, serving three 3-year terms; held the office of secretary, president, (chairman of trustees, one-year each term); was seventh grade boys Sunday school teacher for 12 years; chaired three stewardship drives (fundraiser) from 1969-85; was on the Boy Scout Troop Committee for Zion Merit Badge; was counselor for Firelands Area Boys Scouts of America; was on the three call committees for pastors; was secretary, vice president and president of the local brotherhood; served as Boy Scout chairman; was vice president and president of the Brotherhood Ohio District of American Lutheran Church; was president of the Association of Lutheran Men, (ALC National); was a former member of the property and finance committee of Luther Home of Mercy in Williston, Ohio; was president of Lutheran Brotherhood branch 8244 for 12 years; was co-chairman of Advanced Giving, NE Conference, Ohio District ALC Commitment to Mission Program. At the time of his death, he was chairman of the Stewardship Committee for Erie County for Lutheran Social Services of NW Ohio (chairman of the Advisory Committee, Sandusky office LSS); was a member of Sandusky Rotary Club, Paul Harris Fellow; was an associate member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Fort Myers Beach, Fla.; and was preparing to retire as board member of Lutheran Men in Mission after four years of service.

He married Victoria E. Sartor in February of 1942 -- "Mickey," she was the greatest of all, who preceded him in death. The Lord blessed them with three children, Roy S. (Joyce) Patterson III and Thomas C. (Cindy) Patterson, both of Sandusky, and Cynthia P. Koons of Ada, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Roy S. (Joey) Patterson IV, Steven, Matthew, Thomas Jr., Daniel "Cooter" Patterson, Julia (Jamie) Lazzara, Rebekah Patterson and Regina and Alexandra Koons; 14 great-grandchildren, Kassidy, Karli, Nicolas, Nathan, Kyle, Anna, Will, Aubrey, Abigale, Anna, Maverick, Isabelle, Theodore and Max; sister, Eunice (Bernard) Niehm of Gallipolis, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mickey; parents, Roy S. and Julia (Minzenberger) Patterson Sr.; and brother, Charles Oscar Patterson.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, and from 10 a.m. Thursday until services at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 503 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. John Mawhirter will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
