It is with great sadness that the family of Frona E. (Smith) Christensen, 89, announce her peaceful passing Thursday, March 15, 2007, surrounded by her many friends at St. Anne Home in Greensburg, Pa.

Formerly of Collins, she was born March 30, 1917, in Pritchard, W.Va. She was the last surviving child of the late Verlin (Akers) and Findley Smith’s eight children, and the wife of Floyd L. Christensen, who retired from Bendix Westinghouse in Elyria, Ohio, in 1976, and predeceased her in 1982.

Throughout her life she enjoyed reading, genealogical research, bird watching, studying wild flowers and hiking to collect wild asparagus and morel mushrooms. She was an avid flower and vegetable gardener, worked during World War II as one of the U.S. Navy’s first civilian female inspectors and was a 26-year member of the Sally DeForest Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, based in Norwalk, where she served terms as chaplain, vice-regent and regent (president). She also worked in volunteer positions with the Collins 4-H Club and with the Parent Teacher Association of the Western Reserve School System and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Surviving are daughters, Sharon G. (William Knizner) DiBagno of Jeannette, Pa., Marcia C. (Robert W.) Carmody of Hampstead, Md., and Lorna F. (Joseph) Roud Smith of Frankfort, Ky.; daughter-in-law, Eula C. Stewart of Johnstown, N.Y.; grandchildren, Rachel L. Byro of Leroy, Ill., Robin L. Thorpe of Sycamore, Ill., Christopher J. Stewart of Johnstown, and Virginia C. Smith of Frankfort; great-grandchildren, Michael R. and Jason B. Byro of Leroy, Randal W. (Shana) Thorpe of Ganesvoort, N.Y., Rachel C. (Jason) Stewart of St. Joseph, Mich., and Cynthia Marie (Stephen) Ellery Dingman of Johnstown; great-great-grandchildren, Kara and Chase Thorpe of Ganesvoort and Samantha Stewart of St. Joseph; step grandchildren, Sherry Brown of Fairfax, Va., Tona McCallister and Lynn Reinsmith of Darragh, Pa., and Robert W. (Jan) Carmody Jr. of Raleigh, N.C.; great-step grandchildren, Denyel O’Brien of Greensburg, Zoe Brown of Fairfax, David, Justin, Vanessa and Rachel McCallister of Darragh, Alex and Aaron Reinsmith of Darragh, and Taylor Marie Carmody of Raleigh; and great-great-step grandson, Michael O’Brien of Greensburg. She also is survived by a sister-in-law, Leona Bielfelt of Seville, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Thomas Walsh of Cincinnati, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews; and great and great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to losing her husband and siblings in earlier years, she was also predeceased by her son, Patrick G. Stewart in 2001; by grandson, Patrick M. Stewart in 1980, and Paul M. Stewart in 1969; and by son-in-law, Anthony DiBagno in 1999.

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main St., Norwalk, where services will be 11 a.m. Monday. Interment will be in Collins Cemetery, where her husband rests in peace.
