James H. Ward Sr., 84, of Norwalk, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007, in Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk.
He was born Aug. 1, 1922, in Norwalk, to Alvin H. and Myrtle (Dann) Ward, now deceased. He served in the U.S. Army from 1940-45. He was the oldest active and a lifetime member of the Norwalk VFW Post 2743 since 1943. He was also a member of American Legion Post 41, Eagles Aerie 711, Norwalk Elks and Moose Lodge 1248. He enjoyed baseball, bowling and golfing. He worked at Norwalk Furniture for 38 years, and only missed two days of work.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Rogers of Collins; son, James (Shirley) Ward Jr. of Milan; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Iva Jane (Felter) Ward; and a half-brother, Fred Gill.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main St., Norwalk, where services will be 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Kenneth Blystone will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery with military honors.
