Richard O. Reel, 77, of Sandusky, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007, in his home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Dec.14, 1929, in Sandusky. He was employed as superintendent of the Ohio Road Paving Company for 31 years and later as head mechanic for Perkins Township Highway Department and Happys Welding, retiring in 1992. During his off hours, he worked repairing heavy equipment for Gerold Construction Company and Canfield Refuse. He spent his retirement years tinkering with numerous small engines and loved the times spent having conversation and laughter with all his children and grandchildren. Collecting hats, feeding squirrels, fishing, camping and yard work, where all things he loved.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Wilminia Grace (Cox) Reel; children, Shirley (John) Ramback, Richard Reel, David (Nanette) Reel, William (Brenda) Reel, Linda Parker and Cheryl (Randy) Stewart, all of Sandusky, Mickey Reel of Port Clinton and Diana McGory of Castalia; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister, Beverly Sullivan of Sandusky; brothers, Gary Reel of Fremont and Randall Reel of Sandusky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ruth (Dilts) Reel; grandson, Michael Stewart in infancy; brothers, William and Kenneth, and Donald and Wayne, in infancy.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where visitation will continue from 10 a.m. Friday until services at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
