Elizabeth V. (Corey) Wheeler Nippell, 93, of Norwalk, died Sunday, March 11, 2007, in Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk.
She was born Dec. 31, 1913, to John and Flora (Herman) Corey, now deceased. She was valedictorian and class president at St. Paul High School, class of 1931. She worked at Fanny Farmer Candy in Norwalk for many years and was also active with her jazz band since the 1930s. She taught piano lessons to all age groups and often served three generations of families. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Chur ch and the American Federation of Musicians. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed teaching the art to others . She was active with the church festivals, and enjoyed her special cat, Katzi, and feeding birds and raccoons at her home.
She is survived by her daughter, DeEtte (Richard) Zimmerman of Norwalk; son, Roger (Carolyn) Wheeler of Millersburg, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Delores Wheeler of Norwalk; sister, Sr. Mary Herman, SND, of Toledo; sister-in-law, Regina Moellenkamp of Columbus; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Emerson Wheeler, in 1972; second husband, Sylvester A. Nippell, in 1986; son, Donald E. Wheeler in 2003; and brother, Peter Corey in 1951.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main St., Norwalk, where a wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main St., Norwalk. The Rev. Frank Kehres, will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery.
